SAMSARA DASH CAM & BIOMETRIC DATA POLICY
Drivers ask about the in-cab camera on almost every call, so here is the straight version: what the hardware does, what we actually look at, and what rights you have. Nobody here sits and watches driver feeds — that job does not exist at Rogue. Footage gets reviewed when an event triggers it or when there is an incident to look into, not as a way to manage your day. We would rather tell you exactly how it works than have you find out from a rumor at a truck stop.

THE SAMSARA SYSTEM
Our trucks run Samsara camera systems built to enhance driver awareness and fleet visibility through video and monitoring hardware. Here is exactly what is installed in the cab.
Dual-Facing Dash Cam
One lens on the road, one on the cab. The in-cab side captures audio as well as video — you should know that before you sit in the seat, not after.
A Rolling Loop, Not An Archive
The camera continuously records to storage on the device itself and writes over the oldest footage as it goes. It is a loop measured in hours, not a permanent recording of your career.
WHAT WE ACTUALLY DO
Nobody Is Sitting And Watching You
There is no room where someone watches a wall of driver feeds. That job does not exist here. Your dispatcher is not sitting on your cab while you drive — footage gets looked at when something gives us a reason to look, and the rest of this page is the list of those reasons.
What Actually Leaves The Truck
Footage uploads on its own only when the system detects a specific event — harsh braking, a sharp swerve, a collision, a phone in your hand, no seatbelt. No event, no upload. The rest of the loop stays on the device and gets overwritten.
When A Clip Gets Pulled Manually
Samsara lets an authorized person request a clip from the loop while it still exists. We do that when there is a reason to — an accident, a DOT inspection, a damage claim, a complaint about one of our trucks. It is a deliberate request tied to an incident, not somebody browsing.
Live View
The system is capable of live streaming, including the in-cab lens and audio, while a truck is on an active trip. Opening one is permission-gated in the Samsara dashboard — it is not something any employee can pull up. If you want to know who at Rogue holds that permission, ask HR and we will tell you.
Why It Is There At All
When a four-wheeler cuts you off and blames you, the outward camera is the only thing that proves what happened. That footage has cleared our drivers before. It is also what the Driver of the Month safety bonus is scored on.
Retention & Deletion
Anything saved to the cloud is stored securely and released to a third party only where the law requires it. It is never sold and never used for marketing. Footage nobody pulls is overwritten on the camera as the loop wraps, and once it is overwritten it is gone. Anything we do keep is held only as long as we need it for the incident it was pulled for, or as long as the law requires. To ask how long a specific record is held, or to request its deletion, contact HR.
Consent, And Taking It Back
Participation is voluntary and you give written consent before any recording begins. You can revoke that consent at any time through HR. Revoking does not erase data already collected under a prior consent.
LEGAL FRAMEWORK
Our dash cam program is administered in accordance with the following laws. Where a driver operates in or resides in Illinois, these statutes apply directly:
- Biometric Information Privacy Act740 ILCS 14Governs the collection, storage, and destruction of biometric data.
- Electronic Communications Privacy Act18 U.S.C. § 2701Federal protection for stored electronic communications.
- Illinois Eavesdropping Statute720 ILCS 5/14-1Requires consent for the recording of conversations.
CONSENT & REVOCATION
All Rogue Carrier drivers acknowledge and voluntarily agree to allow the employer to use Samsara dash cams in the truck they will be driving. Before any recording begins, each driver reviews and signs a written consent and disclosure form during onboarding. Signing is voluntary, and consent may be revoked at any time without penalty.
